I was looking for an iPhone App that just turns color images into black and white images and gives me more control over what the image looks like. There are a lot of apps out there that will convert your image into black and white but the problem is that these apps have many filters and black and white is just one of them. Usually turning something black and white is a one click conversion. This one click conversion works occasionally but more often than not I wish I had specific adjustment sliders. I was looking for more control over brightness and contrast and that is why I love the Dramatic Black & White App. Here is how it works, I took this image of my friend Kristen with my iPhone. I opened the app and imported this image.
Once the image loads into Dramatic Black & White, you choose the general style black and white you are looking for. This just points you in a broad genre/direction to start with.
Then you have many options within the “Adjust” button. You can tweak your grey tones by increasing or decreasing the Red, Green or blue tones that were in the original image. You can soften or sharpen the image, increase or decrease the tone, brightness and contrast. I love all of the options this app gives you.
